The plot in The Wink of an EYE: Optimus Prime and the Autobots are chilling out until Unicron tries to take over the earth.  With the help of three humans, and the Maximals (the animal version of the Transformers) they save the day.

I have seen every Transformer film and even though I am not a Transformer aficionado I enjoyed them. They were funny and action-packed.

Under the direction of Steven Caple, Jr. (Creed II), I really got into Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.  Why? It had a full story, and emotions, was funny, and action-packed.  I loved the thorough integration of humans in the story.  There was as much diversity in the humans as it is in the Transformers.

Noah Diaz is trying to help support his mother and his brother who suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia. He can’t find a job mainly because of his heritage.  In desperation, he agrees to steal a Porsche in order to get money for his family. The car turns out to be Mirage who is called to life while Noah is trying to steal the car.

Elena Wallace is an African American archeologist who is trying to make her mark in the museum world. Her boss uses Elena’s skills to make herself look good while keeping Elena in a lower position. We find that prejudice runs in all life forms. Optimus Prime has no trust in humans, Noah doesn’t trust the Transformers, and no one trusts the Terrorcons.

All heck breaks loose when an artifact comes into the museum and Elena realizes it is a key to something.  Mirage convinces Optimus Prime to have Noah break into the museum to get the Transwarp key before the bad guy, Unicron finds it and takes over the earth.  Elena and Noah have to depend on each other to escape the museum and soon join to help protect the key.

In come the Maximals who were the original protectors of the Transwarp. They are fierce but rational beings. Unicron attacked them and they were forced to leave their planet and come to Earth to hide the key.

The humor comes from the banter and friendship between Mirage and Noah, the emotions for me were between Noah and his little brother Kris, Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal, and Bumblebee and everyone.

For the first time in the series, I felt something. I was invested in the characters and the why of their actions.

Until next time, keep your EYE to the Sky!
